L.A.T. Newsletter
by Brenda McCormick
January/February 2000

Our last get-together of 1999 had a
pretty good turn out. Some faces we haven’t seen in quite a while were in
the crowd. Terry & Pat DeWinter, Nina & Tom Anderson, Richard
& Linda Marrs, Julie Tooke, Larry Ross, Karen Ildau, Bev O’Toole, Kris
Card, Dick Dana, Doug Mast, Tommy Berry, Denise Ehler, Rodger Evans,
Scott Topham, and yours truly. If I’ve forgotten anyone, I apologize.
Thanks to all of you who are sending the newsletter
on to others. I’ve had e-mails from as far away as London in the past few months – what fun!
A few of you have commented that haven’t passed along news about myself. Here’s
a brief update. Started at U S WEST June 1998, as a Compensation Analyst,
promoted in August 1999 to a Compensation Manager, supporting the IT department.
IT at U S WEST has about 5000 employees. Not my dream job, but I’m
hanging in to see what the Qwest merger brings. Been there done
that! Daughter, Katie, moved to Florida
in May and survived her first hurricane season. Son Matt is a sophomore
in high school this year and Jerry and I celebrated our 28th wedding
anniversary in October. I thoroughly enjoy producing this
newsletter. Always wanted to be a writer and this is probably as close as
I’ll ever get!
Here are the latest updates I’ve received from
others. Derek Mooneyham is been working, in addition to EDS, with the Fox
Sports Net people covering college football games and operating the “Fox Box”,
the on screen scoreboard displayed in the upper left hand corner of the TV
screen. He’ll be doing the Nuggets games too now that hoop season has
started up again. Nina Anderson is working as Director of Sales &
Advertising at Colorado National Speedway and also doing some contract work
with Karen Ildau for Pikes Peak International Raceway. Gail Sykes and
Rose Robeson are both still with KN (Kinder Morgan). Ross Marzolf moved into a
new house last April. He’s been playing a lot of golf but reports that is
hasn’t improved his game much! Chris Quinn says that his family (which
now consists of three boys) is enjoying San
Antonio, and he’s doing well at Valero as Merger and
Acquisitions Manager. In other news from San
Antonio, congratulations are in order for Tony Jones
who was just recently married. Linda Weber is now handling
facility/building management at CH2M Hill. Tom Foerst who ran our
mail/copy center has battled some health problems but is doing well now. That’s
good news. Rodger Evans is managing one of the nation’s bigger fleets of
vehicles these days with the TCI/AT&T consolidation. I heard from
Laura Gallegos recently. She’s still at Manville in Denver. Steve Nicholson must be keeping
busy at Katy Industries; he’s never at his desk when I call.
There are a number of people I haven’t heard from
or about in a long time. If you know anything, give me an update
please. Jerry McVay, Bob Findsen, Bill Spence, Amy Boman, Ernie Coker,
Dave Graham, Mike Hurley, Don Thompson, Barb Bouchard, Diane Garner, Sandi
Freier, to name a few that come to mind.
Some of the more distant news comes from Paul
Crane. He’s a regional manager for a group of Total stores in the U.K. He
and Sarah and Charlotte welcomed new baby, Henry, to the family in October of
1999. Congratulations! Ron Edelen is now the Director of Purchasing
for Duke Energy. Dick Pittenger was married in April and has relocated to
Grand Junction.
Georgia Sweeney reports that she sees Lynn (Cogburn) O’Brien once in a while.
Mike Brown checked in via e-mail recently. He’s with Rule Engineering, an
environmental and safety management company that he started, along with a
partner. Charlie Klunzinger also checked in. He and Carol did some
traveling after Total and he reports that the hardest work he’s done lately is
ushering at Rockies games. I ran into Brent
Tracy on the street this fall. He’s now “lawyer-ing” at Holme, Roberts
& Owen. Ran into both Brad Strom and Harold Grueskin in the US WEST
building the other day. Harold’s keeping busy and Brad has now been at US
WEST for 3 years. Had lunch just recently with some of my favorite retirees,
Peg Downing, Ken Buckler, Ross Marzolf, Tom Richards, Paul Gutknecht and Dick
Dana.
If you’d like to catch up with some of the old
gang, meet us on Friday, February 25th, 6PM at Wazoo’s (on Wazee St. between 18th & 19th).
Hope to see you there!
